Research “Speed Dating”

February 23 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Get ready for an energizing twist on scholarly connections! This is an upbeat event of getting to know more about one another’s research, exploring intersections, and enjoying good company over refreshments.

What is the goal? This event builds directly on the recommendations in the recent review of our academic structures.  In particular, the study recommendations emphasize building on faculty connections to better support both our faculty and the curriculum.   Central to this is creating spaces and ways for us to get to know each other more fully as teacher-scholars.

How will the time framed?  We will set the tone with refreshments and a festive atmosphere.  You will engage in a series of short dates (~6 minutes) with your colleagues guided by curated prompts.  Expect to share a quick elevator pitch on your research and the kinds of connections you seek.  Faculty will rotate through partners based upon pairings coming out of the short, pre-event survey (below).

Why attend?  Outcomes could include sparking ideas for courses connections, interdisciplinary projects or even future grant initiatives.  Importantly it will be an opportunity to gain a richer understanding of the fantastic research happening across the campus and to connect with colleagues you may not typically see.

To allow planning for both some refreshments and set up the conversation rotation, please complete this form (Research Speed Dating RSVP) to RSVP by Friday, February 13.
