Reading Plus

Reading is a lifelong skill needed for every aspect of a student’s college career and beyond, and like any other skill, reading skills require practice. As part of our mission, the Academic Resource Center is committed to helping students develop their reading goals and skills, and one of the most effective tools we offer to students is Reading Plus. Reading Plus is an adaptive literacy solution that improves fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, stamina, and motivation. To begin, Reading Plus provides an adaptive assessment which helps to see where your reading abilities might excel or need improvement.

The Reading Assessment

The reading assessment is a computer-adaptive assessment that takes approximately 45 minutes to determine your reading rate, academic vocabulary range, and reading comprehension. No additional time is needed for students with disabilities, as the program automatically adjusts content and length to each individual student. The assessment is designed to get an accurate picture of your unassisted abilities, so we request that you take the assessment in a space where you can be undisturbed. Completing the Reading Plus assessment and seeing your results will allow you to make informed decisions about how to manage your courses and academic experience at Wooster.

Enhanced Reading Support

Once you have taken the assessment, Reading Plus provides personalized learning exercises to improve reading rate, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. Incorporating just ten minutes of interactive exercises to your daily schedule can significantly improve your reading skills in a wide range of capacities!

  • Reading speed & efficiency (“How can I read 60 pages for tomorrow?!”)
  • Reading comprehension skills (“I just don’t understand what I am reading.”)
  • Vocabulary building (“I need more academic words.”)
  • Exploring a reading disability diagnosis (“I’ve never been able to look into this, but…”)
  • Reading for multilingual students
