From time to time, our Campus may experience power loss. This can happen for many reasons including powerful storms (both rain events and snow events), automobile crashes, high energy demand, equipment failure, and excavation/construction mishaps. Many of our buildings are equipped with back-up generators; however, there are still some buildings that have no back-up power.
If you are inside a building during a power outage:
- Call Facilities Operations at (330) 263-2135 on weekdays from 8am-4pm or if after hours, during holidays, or on weekends, call Campus Safety at (330) 263-2590 and they will contact the Facilities On-call phone for you.
- Provide assistance to others in your immediate area who may be unfamiliar with the space.
- If you are in an unlit area, proceed cautiously to an area that has emergency lights.
- If you are in an elevator, stay calm. Use the emergency button or telephone to alert Campus Safety.
- Keep refrigerators closed to conserve cooling.
- Initiate power outage protocols for critical operations such as fume hoods.
