Barricading a Door with the Bearacade Lockdown Devices

See below for step-by-step directions on how to use the Bearacade(tm) door barricades that are in many classrooms.

If your classroom is equipped with this device, it will be hanging near your classroom door(s).

STEP 1:

Open the classroom door and quickly slide the device under the door. Ensure the stripes on the device are positioned on the OUTSIDE of the door (towards the hallway).

STEP 2:

Close the door and slide the device towards the rubber stopper that is on the back of your door. Note the arrow pointing at the rubber stopper.

STEP 3:

Insert the pin through the center hole and slide the pin into the pre-drilled hole in the floor. Note: on carpeted floors, these holes can be hard to see/find. You may need to reposition the device until you locate the hole, then insert the pin until it is flush with the top of the device. THE PIN MUST BE PUSHED ALL THE WAY INTO THE FLOOR UNTIL IT IS FLUSH WITH THE TOP. IF IT IS NOT, THE BARRICADE SYSTEM WILL BE INEFFECTIVE.
Example of a correctly positioned barricade system.
Notice: the striped side of the barricade is on the outside of the locked door. This tells first responders that this classroom is barricaded.

You’re Not Done Yet

Even with the barricade device, you should still blockade the door with additional desks, tables, chairs, etc. This will help absorb the impact of any bullets fired through the door. Never stand in front of the barricaded door! Move to a corner as far away from the door as possible.
