Six members of the College’s Emergency Management, Campus Safety, and Student Wellness departments received Stop the Bleed training on March 19th from members of Wooster Community Hospital (WCH) and Wooster Fire Department (WFD). Julie Johns MSN, RN, CEN of WCH, and Lt. Kristin Brockway, Firefighter/Paramedic of WFD, provided this training to our first responder community so that we may better respond to emergencies on campus. The training consisted of online video instruction with a test, followed by hands-on training. The students were taught to recognize and control life-threatening bleeding until professional help arrives, learning techniques such as applying direct pressure, packing wounds, and using tourniquets. Next, the trainees will apply to be instructors in the Stop the Bleed initiative and hope to offer classes to our campus community in the future.
