There are many things that can cause gas leaks or explosions. These guidelines will not cover every possible scenario but could help you should one, or both, occur.
If you smell gas:
- Be prepared for possible explosions.
- Do not use any electronic devices until the threat has passed.
- Evacuate the building as quickly as possible to an outdoor area away from the source of the leak. (Note: The fire alarm will not sound in the event of a gas leak).
- Do not use elevators.
- If requested, accompany and assist persons with disabilities.
- Do not use matches or lighters.
- Meet at a predetermined location to account for all members of your unit.
