A suspicious item is anything (e.g., bag, package, vehicle, etc.) that is reasonably believed to contain explosives, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), or other hazardous material that requires a bomb technician and/or specialized equipment to further evaluate it. Generally speaking, anything that is Hidden, Obviously suspicious, and not Typical (HOT) should be deemed suspicious.
We recognize that sometimes people will inadvertently leave a bag or box unattended by accident. However, trust your gut when it tells you that unattended backpack shouldn’t be there. Call Campus Safety at (330) 263-2590 or 911 if you believe there is an imminent threat to life or infrastructure.
