TREK programs can be part of a semester class, with the study abroad portion taking place over a school break or the very end of the semester. Other TREKs are stand-alone programs that take place over winter or summer breaks. Check out the TREK program page for examples of past programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Implementing a TREK Program<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are considering creating a TREK program, please contact Global Engagement Office as early in the process as you can. GEO staff will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Provide background on best practice and what works and what doesn\u2019t<\/li><li>Direct you to the program proposal template<\/li><li>Help you develop a proposal and preliminary budget<\/li><li>Guide you through the approval process that includes the GEO Advisory Committee, the Educational Policy Committee and the Faculty<\/li><li>Help you plan a marketing and recruitment strategies<\/li><li>Attend your information sessions to answer students\u2019 questions on the process, cost, and so on<\/li><li>Create the application and manage applications for your review<\/li><li>Communicate with students and assist with visa applications<\/li><li>Lead a pre-departure orientation for you and the students<\/li><li>Ensure program assessment<\/li><li>Assist with any challenges or emergencies that take place abroad<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TREK Applications for Faculty<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You will need to submit the completed TREK program proposal, a course syllabus, and a preliminary budget to the GEO Advisory Committee. These materials are available from GEO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once all of the materials have been approved by the GEO Advisory Committee, your proposal must be approved by EPC, and then it must go to the faculty for a vote. Once it is officially approved, you can start advertising and recruiting. GEO can help at any point in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Timeline<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The timeline for approval and implementation may be longer than you think.
