Click <strong>&#8220;Apply Now&#8221;<\/strong> to begin your GEO application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your application includes several required components, all of which can be completed through GEO Compass. GEO application deadlines provide enough time for advising, application review, and preparation before departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many study abroad providers have their own deadlines, and some programs use rolling admissions. Complete the Pre-Decision components before your application is reviewed. If you receive a room and board invoice from your provider, please check with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/inside.wooster.edu\/business\/students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wooster\u2019s Student Accounts&nbsp;Office<\/a>&nbsp;to avoid paying twice.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If&nbsp;the program does not include a&nbsp;meal plan, students&nbsp;will&nbsp;be&nbsp;responsible for&nbsp;buying groceries&nbsp;and preparing their own meals. Sticking to a budget is an important part of the learning process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please note that the College of Wooster does not have funding to assist students during their time abroad. Should students face an emergency while off campus, they would need to rely on familial or other sources of support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-background\" style=\"background-color:#5d9bc266;padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\"><strong>Program Deposit:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After acceptance into their program, students pay a&nbsp;non-refundable deposit&nbsp;to their program provider&nbsp;(typically around $500).&nbsp;&nbsp;At time of&nbsp;invoicing the College,&nbsp;the program notes that the deposit has been paid.&nbsp;Wooster&nbsp;then&nbsp;credits students for their deposit&nbsp;and applies it&nbsp;to their Wooster\u2019s&nbsp;tuition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-background\" style=\"background-color:#5d9bc266;padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\"><strong>What about Financial Aid?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Federal Financial Aid&nbsp;(excluding work study) applies to study abroad&nbsp;through the College of Wooster.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wooster institutional aid&nbsp;(sometimes referred to as \u201cMerit Aid\u201d) will be&nbsp;applied&nbsp;to one semester of off campus study, but does carry repayment stipulations should the student not return to the College of Wooster as outlined below.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students&nbsp;should be able to&nbsp;determine&nbsp;how much they receive in&nbsp;federal and institutional aid by viewing their student account. Smaller cities or non-traditional destinations tend to be&nbsp;more affordable.&nbsp;Many overseas universities have student accommodations that include kitchen facilities, and students find that they can save money by shopping and cooking for themselves or with suite mates.&nbsp;On-site program staff are experts at helping students find free events and museums, affordable restaurants, and budget-friendly ways to explore the country.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ultimately, how&nbsp;much a student spends depends on their personal budget and spending priorities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-background\" style=\"background-color:#5d9bc266;padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\"><strong>Accessing Money Abroad:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most students continue to use their U.S. bank account while studying off campus, but should check for fees charged by their bank for international debit\/credit&nbsp;card&nbsp;purchases&nbsp;or ATM withdrawals.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">GEO&nbsp;strongly&nbsp;recommends that students&nbsp;have a&nbsp;second&nbsp;credit card&nbsp;reserved&nbsp;for emergencies.&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students should notify their bank that they will be traveling; usually this can be done online. Otherwise, the bank may flag overseas expenditures as fraudulent and freeze card use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-background\" style=\"background-color:#5d9bc266;padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\"><strong>Refund Policies:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students are asked to commit to studying off-campus by April 30th via their GEO Compass Application portal. They would withdraw officially via the GEO Compass Application portal and by notifying their program provider. Note: GEO cannot notify the program provider for the student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>If they withdraw after April 30th and do not notify GEO, they may forfeit the GEO Administrative Fee.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Typically, no refunds are available after the start of a study abroad program. Furthermore, if the College of Wooster or any third-party deems it necessary to expel a student from the program the student will not receive any refunds and will be responsible for any costs incurred as a result of leaving the program and returning to the U.S. or their home country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students forced to cancel their attendance for documented medical reasons or a significant family or personal emergency prior to the program start date may be eligible for a partial refund of program fees. Students must submit proper documentation (physician\u2019s note) to be considered for a partial refund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students who experience a medical emergency&nbsp;or another emergency that requires early departure from an ongoing program will be responsible for any additional travel and related costs that may be incurred. These students, however, might be eligible for a partial refund from their program provider. The GEO Office could assist the student in determining if a partial refund might be possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The College of Wooster Business Office makes the final decisions regarding any refunds from the College of Wooster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students are responsible for arranging with their program provider to complete any coursework missed as a result of early departure. It is the discretion of the overseas faculty and\/or institution to award credits for coursework completed, and early departure from a program may result&nbsp;in credits not being awarded due to the amount of coursework missed or coursework that cannot be completed because it is fundamentally grounded in the environment. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The College of Wooster cannot award credit for coursework that does not appear on an official study away transcript.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-background\" style=\"background-color:#5d9bc266;padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\"><strong>Program Cancellations or Modifications<\/strong>:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Program Providers reserve the right to cancel a program before it has started or, in extreme instances, during the program if it is in the interest of the program and its participants. In such circumstances the provider may provide a partial refund or cover expenses related to early departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The College of Wooster will not refund airfare or other costs incurred as a result of program changes or cancellations\/withdrawals. Typically, the program provider works with an overseas insurer and will issue the student coverage as part of its program fees.&nbsp;It is the student&#8217;s responsibility to read and understand the extent of this coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The student should understand that their program may provide the student, through medical personnel of its choice, customary medical assistance, transportation, and emergency medical services. class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In the event a student is alleged to have engaged in conduct during the term of a study abroad program in violation of the GEO Standards, the following Preliminary Assessment of Alleged Violation<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The Program Director, on-site coordinator, and\/or a representative of the Global Engagement Office will conduct a preliminary assessment of the alleged violation(s). The student(s) may be temporarily separated from the Program or from Program activities while the preliminary assessment is conducted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>B. Notice to Student<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">If, based on the preliminary assessment, the Program Director, on-site coordinator, or representative of GEO, College of Wooster Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities, or College of Wooster Title IX Coordinator determines that there is reasonable cause to believe that a violation of GEO Standards has occurred, s\/he will provide the student(s) alleged to have violated the GEO Standards with verbal and\/or written notice of the allegation(s). Additionally, the student(s) will be informed of the potential corrective action(s) that may be taken and will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond to the allegations. This may all be accomplished in person, in writing, via the telephone, or other reasonable means of communication as determined by the College. In cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, sexual misconduct (including, but not limited to, sexual assault), stalking, and relationship violence, the alleged victim will also be given notice and an opportunity to be heard prior to any decision (as described in paragraph C below) is made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>C. Decision<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">After providing the student with notice and an opportunity to respond, and following the completion of any follow up review deemed appropriate, the Program Director, on-site coordinator, and\/or representative of GEO, in consultation with the College Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities and the Title IX Coordinator, will determine whether the student has violated GEO Standards, and if so, what corrective action(s) specified in Section E below will be implemented, except that any decision to dismiss a student from the Program must be approved in advance by a member of the College of Wooster leadership team (Dean of APEX, Dean of Curriculum and Academic Engagement, Provost, Dean of Students, President, or President\u2019s designee).<br>&nbsp;<br>Dismissal from a Program does not necessarily affect a student\u2019s eligibility to register for, or his or her status in College of Wooster courses. A student\u2019s status with regard to College enrollment shall be determined in accordance with the provisions of the Scot\u2019s Key and\/or other applicable University policies and procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>D. Communicating the Decision<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The student will be promptly informed in writing of any decision regarding corrective action, which may be implemented immediately and shall be final. A copy of any decision will be provided to the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>E. (Double check with your program provider to see if it will be usable at the program location.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">&nbsp;Ask an&nbsp;on-site program staff member to assist you in purchasing&nbsp;a smart phone locally. In case of a national emergency (e.g., earthquake, terrorist attack), the host government also will give you instructions on how to proceed (seek higher ground, shelter in place, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">3. <strong>Call your family\/loved ones.<\/strong>&nbsp;Contact one person back home to let them know you are safe. Ask that person to call others on your behalf.
