Peter Abramo on a new summer program to aid students in their first professional job!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our team is creating a one-week summer program, called \u201cTransition to Career<\/a>,\u201d designed to help liberal arts students effectively fit in at their first professional job. The goal is to help liberal arts college students understand how the culture and context of their work organization will impact their role as an employee, as well as guide them in taking steps and learning how an individual employee can provide the most value to an organization.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Value Proposition<\/strong>: This program helps prepare students to understand, navigate, and position themselves for success within a new professional work system.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Topics<\/strong>: We cover a variety of workplace aspects, including organizational culture, business strategy, leadership, marketing, finance and accounting, and data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Structure<\/strong>: Students will learn through 60- to 90-minute training sessions taught by professionals, site visits, and applied work on a business case study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dates<\/strong>: The week-long career prep pilot program will run from Monday, May 19, through Friday, May 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this point, we have four business partners who are providing sites and personnel for the program. We also have several College alumni who will be providing instruction. Additional meetings have been scheduled to add to our list of instructors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marketing material has been created and distributed on campus. We are holding an information session in early February with more specific details<\/strong>. We have met with Advancement to share information about the program with potential donors as well. The program will also be featured in the spring issue of Wooster <\/em>magazine. The Wayne County Economic Development Council and the Chamber of Commerce are engaged in this pilot program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
