Job Description:

Student will support Experiential Learning (EL) programming both within and outside the curriculum

Duties and Responsibilities (may include the following, but not limited to):

  • Serve as a resource to strengthen EL messaging to students
  • Provide first line advising to students on:
    • finding internships
    • understanding structure and expectations of APEX Fellowships
    • writing APEX Fellowship applications
    • drafting resumes
  • Provide logistical support to faculty who incorporate EL into their classes, including arranging transportation, scheduling student participation and other relevant record-keeping
  • Serve as a full member of the APEX Fellowship team by:
    • evaluating applications
    • participating on interview teams
    • assist in the preparation and facilitation of Fellowship Orientation and Re-Integration
  • Plan and execute information sessions and workshops
  • (If appropriate) serve as a Presentation Coach for readying APEX Fellows, AMRE participants, and summer researchers for their oral and poster presentations
  • Compile data about internship opportunities
  • Attend regular ELPA meetings and training sessions
  • Assist with special projects as needed

Learning Goals:

  • Students will be able to choose a format, language, or visual representation that will enhance the communication of content while being able to connect how the communication choice is appropriate for the content.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate a developing sense of self as a learner, building on prior experiences to respond to new and challenging contexts.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work with students across many different stages of readiness for experiential learning opportunities
  • Available for a minimum of 1 hour during Walk-in Wednesday (1:30-4:00 pm Wednesdays)
  • Available for 1 hour per week during shared Peer Advisor drop-in times (11-12 Monday-Thursday)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with students, professional staff, and faculty
  • Excellent time management skills: able to work independently and plan in advance for scheduled activities
  • Ability to work on the team
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good computer and presentation skills
  • Creativity is strongly desired
