Manually Install PaperCut


Sometimes you will have to manually add a printing device to your computer so that Papercut can print to it. Follow these instructions to find out how.


Step 1: Install Papercut

  1. Open Finder
  2. Select Go located at the top option bar.
  3. Select Connect to Server
  4. Enter smb://papercut.wooster.edu/pcclient/mac 
  5. Select Connect
  6. You should have access to a new window. 
  7. In this new window, locate a file named client-local-install.app
  8. Double click this app to install Papercut to the machine you are on. 

Step 2: Install the Printers

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Select Printers & Scanners.
  3. Click the lock to make changes. 
  4. Click the plus sign to add a printer
  5. Select the IP icon. You will now be given a series of fields you must fill out to continue the process. Refer to the following to know what to put down:
    1. In the Address field, enter  papercut.wooster.edu
    2. In the Protocol field, select  Line Printer Daemon – LPD
    3. In the Queue field, enter the name from the Papercut list.  Contact IT if needed.
    4. In the Name field, enter a name for the printer. Make it something descriptive for you.
    5. The Use field will depend on the type of device you are adding.
    6. Click the Add button.
  6. You should now be able to select the printer as an option in the printing and PaperCut options on your computer.


Step 1: Locate the Application:

  1. Open Windows Explorer.
  2. Click on the address bar (Type here to search bar). Enter in: “\\papercut.wooster.edu\pcclient\win”.
  3. From this directory, locate and double-click Client-local-install.exe to begin the installation process. 

Step 2: Install Papercut

  1. Follow through the prompts that the installation client gives you. Enter in your College of Wooster credentials when prompted.
  2. Now that the client has been installed, open Windows Explorer again.
  3. Click on the address bar. Enter in: “\\papercut.wooster.edu\”.
  4. Double click on the appropriate printer.
  5. You should now be able to select the printer as an option in the printing and PaperCut options on your computer.

After Installation

If you have followed these instructions, the default names for the student printers should be Student BW and Student Color, respectively. These can print to any public printing location, as noted in the Papercut FAQ.
