Microsoft first announced plans to move away from EWS in 2023 and has been encouraging software vendors to transition to the more secure and modern Microsoft Graph platform.

Beginning October 1, 2026, Microsoft will start disabling EWS connections in Exchange Online as part of a phased retirement process. Applications and services that still rely on EWS may experience interruptions until they are updated to support Microsoft Graph.

For some Apple users, this change may affect native macOS applications connected to Microsoft accounts, including:

Mail

Calendar

Contacts

Reminders

Apple has acknowledged this transition and indicated that it is working with Microsoft to move affected applications to Microsoft Graph.
