Doug McGlumphy creates monuments to the lives of everyday people. Rooted in rural American life they also offer pointed critiques of contemporary values and politics. A collector of vintage and antique objects and architectural elements, McGlumphy’s work comes together when current events converge with materials on hand. This artistic project culminates at the ArtFarm in Stone Creek, Ohio, where restored historic houses and art installations now inhabit the landscape of the farm his grandparents owned and worked.
McGlumphy is assistant professor of art and director of the Olin Art Gallery at Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania. He also serves as exhibition preparator and collections manager at the College of Wooster.
