To maintain your Music Scholarship, you need to fulfill the following requirements each semester. Music Scholarships are awarded for a maximum of 8 semesters.
Applied Lesson Requirements
- Register for applied lessons on your audition instrument
- Composition scholarship holders register for composition lessons.
- Earn a minimum grade of C- or satisfactory audit (“L”)
- Perform in an end-of-semester jury, even if auditing
- Juries are not required for composition scholarship holders.
- Perform on a Departmental Recital if encouraged by your private teacher.
Your Music Scholarship dramatically reduces private lesson fees on your audition instrument:
- Half-hour lessons: $30 per semester (regular fee: $780)
- Hour lessons: $60 per semester (regular fee: $1,560)
Ensemble Requirements
- Register for one of the following large ensembles on your audition instrument (when possible). Ensembles marked * require a separate audition for admission.
- Wooster Chorus*
- Wooster Symphony Orchestra*
- Scot Symphonic Band*
- Scot Marching Band (fall only)
- Wooster Jazz Ensemble*
- Pipe Band*
- Earn a passing grade (“S”) or satisfactory audit (“L”)
- Special notes
- Composition scholarship holders may choose any large ensemble
- Keyboard scholarship recipients may fulfill the requirement participating in one of the following:
- Playing the keyboard in Wooster Symphony Orchestra, Scot Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, or Contemporary Chamber Ensemble,
- Enrolling in Accompanying course
- Singing in Wooster Chorus or Wooster Singers
- Ensemble directors may invite you to enroll in a particular ensemble.
Note: your eight semesters of lessons and ensembles, if taken for credit, will earn you 5 credits. Add just one music theory or musicology course, and you will have earned a minor in music.
