Tea Talk and Tasting with Kurt Gibbins, Ohio Tea Company
Thursday, September 15, 7 pm
College of Wooster Art Museum, Burton Gallery
On view in CONTAINED, we currently have 28 teapots on view, nearly the museum’s full collection (we’ll open the gallery again after the talk). Most are of two types—contemporary American teapots and Yixing ceramic pots from China.
The exhibition asks us to think carefully about the containers we use in everyday life and how they connect us. Hot beverages made by steeping plants in hot water seem to exist in most cultures. Tea has been drunk for thousands of years, all over the world, and the business of tea drove global trade and imperialism starting in the 17th century.
We are also lucky to have a number of tea shops in the area, and my colleague Tracy Mathys has designed a guide to take your own Tea Trek!
Ohio Tea Company was founded in 2015 by Terry Gabet and David Edwards. The shop located in the Lake Cable Shopping Center in Canton carries over 400 of the finest loose leaf pure teas, tisanes, unique blends, herbs, and accessories from around the world.
Kurt Gibbons, Terry’s son in law, has since become a partner in the company after teaching preschool for 15 years. – M. Wardle
