Installing Office 365

Through the College’s licensing agreement with Microsoft, faculty, staff, and students have access to Microsoft 365 and the full Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, and more) for as long as you are enrolled or employed at Wooster. There is no need to purchase it.

For help using the Microsoft apps once installed, see Microsoft Support

Before You Begin

If you already have an older version of Office on your computer, uninstall it first. Installing Microsoft 365 on top of an old Office version (such as Office 2016 or 2019) is the most common cause of a failed or broken install. Uninstalling will not delete any documents, workbooks, or files you have created.

To remove an old version:

  • Windows: open Settings, go to Apps, find Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365, and choose Uninstall.
  • Mac: open Finder, go to Applications, drag the Microsoft Office apps to the Trash, then empty the Trash.

Then restart your computer before installing the newer version

Installing Microsoft 365

  1. Go to m365.cloud.microsoft/apps and sign in with your full College of Wooster email address if you are not already signed in. If prompted to choose between a Work or school account and a Personal account, always choose Work or school account.
  1. In the upper right corner, click Install apps.
  1. In the menu that appears, choose Microsoft 365 apps. An installer file will download to your computer.
  2. Open the downloaded installer and follow the on-screen instructions. When it finishes, open any app such as Word and sign in with your Wooster email to activate.

Good to Know

  • You can install Microsoft 365 on up to five computers and five mobile devices with your Wooster account.
  • Prefer not to install anything? You can use the web versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook right from microsoft365.com.
  • On a managed College-owned computer, Microsoft 365 is usually installed for you. These steps are for your personal devices.
