What can we help you with?
Transferring your Microsoft Authenticator data to a new phone
When getting a new phone, you will need to set up your Authenticator app with the same accounts. This can be done manually, but it’s possible to back up and restore your Authenticator from one device to another. Note that an iPhone backup can only be restored on another iPhone, and an Android backup only on an Android
Creating a backup
You will need a personal (non-Wooster) Microsoft account to create a backup. iOS devices also need to be signed in with their iCloud account
- Open the Authenticator app on your old device
- Go to the Settings menu
- Under Backup, enable the Cloud Backup toggle (“iCloud backup” on iOS)
- Log into your personal Microsoft account when prompted
Restoring a backup
- Before signing in, select either “Restore from backup” or “Begin recovery”
- Sign in to your personal Microsoft account when prompted
- Your accounts are now restored, but your Wooster email will require verification. If it does, click on the entry and it should ask to see a QR code
- On a different device (preferably a laptop), log into your Wooster email and go to http://aka.ms/mfasetup. You should see a list of sign-in methods including your old device’s Authenticator app
- Click “Add sign-in method” and select Microsoft Authenticator
- Click Next until the QR code is displayed, then scan it with your new device
- Your new device should be all set up with Authenticator. You should now Delete your old device on aka.ms/mfasetup
