User Guide for Freedlander Theater Mixer Board
To turn the system on:
Flip the power switch on the small stack to the right of the board (with the CD player) FIRST. Then flip on the switch to the Top Furman Power Sequencer in the large rack, then the bottom. It will take a few moments as the equipment turns on. Turn the system off in the reverse order.
All amplifier and equalizer settings in the large rack should be left alone.
Microphone Locations:
There are 10 wired mics inserted into the board – channels 1-10.
Mic 1 and 2 are located stage right floor box.
Mic 3 and 4 are located center stage front floor box.
Mic 5, 6, 7 and 8 are located center stage center floor box.
Mic 9 and 10 are located stage left floor box.
Channels 11 and 12 are for the wireless Shure microphones, which are located in the drawer in the rack. There is one lapel and one handheld per frequency, so use one or the other, not both. (Example) If you need to use a lapel AND a handheld, use lapel mic 11 and handheld mic 12.
INPUTS 1 THRU 16 on the mixer.
From top to bottom.
DIR OUT (direct out): for recording individual channels.
MIC: XLR microphone input.
48V: Phantom power for condenser microphones. Depress to send 48 volts to a condenser microphone. If using a DYNAMIC microphone, DO NOT PUSH.
LINE IN: To plug in ¼” TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve). It does override the XLR input.
INSERT: Used to send a signal to an outboard processor; in this case it can go to the COMPRESSOR.
GAIN: Adjusts the input of that channel.
HPF 100 Hz: Depress to cut off frequencies below 100 hertz. Used for vocals to eliminate pops and rumble.
HF 12k: Hi frequency boost or cut centered at 12,000 hertz.
HM: (Hi middle) Black knob adjusts which frequency to adjust using the blue gain control knob.
LF: (Low frequency) Black knob adjusts which frequency to adjust using the blue gain control knob.
EQ IN: Depress to engage the equalizer settings.
AUX 1: To send that channel’s signal to the front stage left monitor.
AUX 2: To send that channel’s signal to the front stage right monitor.
AUX 3: To send that channel’s signal to the back stage right monitor.
AUX 4: To send that channel’s signal to the back stage left monitor.
POST/PRE: currently not used
AUX 5: currently not used
AUX 6: currently not used
PAN: adjusts input to the left or the right amp/speakers.
MUTE: When lit RED, the input is muted.
PFL: (Pre fade listen) Sends the channel signal to the headphones and main L R meters. Used for checking the audio signal before unmuting the channel.
PK!: (Peak) Do not allow it to light up RED.
SIG: signal LED lights up at a nominal input level and gets brighter with higher level signals.
L-R: Depress to send the channel to the L(left) and R(right) amp/speaker.
M: Depress to send the channel to the M (middle) amp/speaker. This channel has the subwoofer!
1-2: Depress to send the channel to the GRP1 and GRP2 (Group One and Group Two) amp/speakers. GRP1 and GRP2 faders control the BOOTH volume.
3-4: Depress to send the channel to the GRP3 and GRP4 (Group Three and Group Four) amp/speakers. GRP3 and GRP4 faders control the LOBBY volume.
FADER: Affects the level of the channel.
INPUTS 17-20
ST1 ( and ST3) Phono sockets. These are stereo inputs additional to the MAIN stereo channel inputs. (ST2 and ST4)
ST2 (and ST4) the MAIN stereo inputs. Currently they are CD1(ST2) and CD2(ST4)
ST1 LEV (and ST3 LEV): level control for ST1 and ST3

ST2 LEV (and ST4 LEV): level control for ST2 and ST4
HF: Hi Frequency level control centered at 12,000 hertz.
HM: Hi middle frequency control centered at 2500 hertz.
LM: Low middle frequency control centered at 250 hertz.
LF: Low frequency control centered at 80 hertz.

AUX 1: To send that channel’s signal to the front stage left monitor.
AUX 2: To send that channel’s signal to the front stage right monitor.

TALK BACK MICROPHONE
Use the Shure SM58 mic.
TB: use to control level. Push the WHITE button to talk to the stage monitors. Push the GRAY button to talk to the MAINS (L-R-M)
AUX VOLUME CONTROLS
The AUX volume controls are located just under the Allen and Heath LOGO.
AUX1 is for the front stage left monitor.
AUX2 is for the front stage right monitor.
AUX3 is for the back stage right monitor.
AUX4 is for the back stage left monitor.
AFL: (after fader listen) Used to check the signal after the master level control.
GROUP MASTERS
L-R and M: when pushed in sends the group signals to the main L-R-M. Currently not being used.
PAN: not used
MUTE: cuts the signal from the group.
1 and 2 are BOOTH controls
3 and 4 are LOBBY controls
AFL: ( after fader listen) allows headphone monitoring of the group signal after the fader but before the MUTE switch.
FADER: black fader controls output to the BOOTH or LOBBY amp/speakers.
- The amplifier for the BOOTH speakers is a signal sensing amp. On occasions, when it does not see a signal, it will shut itself off. If you get nothing from GRP1 and GRP2, turn the amp back on manually. (be sure to MUTE your Group channels before the amp turns on.)
The three MAROON faders on the lower right are for LEFT, RIGHT and CENTER(M) amp/speakers. The center also has a subwoofer.
TO PLUG INTO THE COMPRESSOR
Plug ¼” cords (yellow-comp1, orange-comp2, red – comp3, purple- comp4) into whichever microphone insert is needed.
Example) If Mic4 needs the compressor, plug a ¼” into the insert of Mic4. Adjust the compressor as needed.
MONITORS
AUX1 and AUX2 are always PreFader.
AUX1 and AUX2 send pre fader signals to the stage monitors.
AUX1 is front stage left, AUX2 is front stage right.
TO USE THE STEREO INPUTS
Currently CD1 is plugged into ST2
CD2 is plugged into ST4
If your are going to plug into ST1 or ST3 (maybe IPOD or another line level device), turn up the level for ST1 or ST3 and push in the routing selector switch to CH. (return to LR when not needed)
EFFECTS
FX(effects) is on 23 and 24 of the patch bay. There are only 2 channels available for FX.
Example) If FX are needed for Mic12, patch from 12A to 23B, and then from 23A to 12B. Adjust FX as needed. Make sure the IN/OUT button is lit on the FX.
After the performance/lecture/movie is finished, please MUTE all channels. Shut down the equipment in the reverse order you turned them on. Wait for the Furman Power Sequencers to finish before shutting down the small stack next to the board.
