Connecting to network storage on Mac OS X

  1. In your menu bar, open the Go menu and choose Connect To Server.
  2. Enter smb://files.wooster.edu/ours in the server address field and click Connect.  
  3. Next, you will be asked to enter your user name and password (the “Workgroup/Domain” field is irrelevant). NOTE: the name that defaults in the box MAY NOT be your user name. Be sure to enter everything before the @ symbol in your email address.
  4. You will now see the volume appear on your desktop:
  5. Once you are finished, you can disconnect the volume by dragging the icon down to the trash can, which turns into an eject symbol:

To create a short cut on a Mac: Once you have set this up the first time, you can create a short cut on your desktop to bypass these steps in the future. Click once on your folder and while holding down the Apple and Option keys, drag the folder to your desktop. Going forward, you will be prompted for a user name and password when you attempt to open your short cut.
