Photoshop for Students

iPhoto is an application used for importing, editing, storing digital images. It is part of Apple’s iLife suite of applications and runs on the Macintosh operating system.

There are Macintosh computers with iPhoto installed in the Educational Technology lab in Taylor 205 with staff to assist you.

Project Examples

iPhoto is used to import, edit and organize photos for all types of projects. A few classes use iPhoto to edit images for slideshows set to music or for use in iMovie projects known as “Digital Stories”.

How-To

1.If you are importing images from a digital camera, connect your camera to your computer using a USB cable and iPhoto should open automatically. When iPhoto opens, select “Import” in the lower right corner of the window.

2.If you are importing images from a file, select “Import to Library” from the File menu. Browse the files you wish to import and select “Import”.

3.To make the group of images you’ve just imported into an iPhoto album, select “Last Roll” from the menu on the left side of the window and “Select All” from the edit menu to select all of the images you’ve just imported. Choose “New Album from Selection” from the file menu. A window will appear prompting you to name the album.

4.To make a slideshow from your album, select the album from the menu on the left side and choose “Slideshow” from the toolbar on the bottom of window.

5.To make a card from your album, select the album from the menu on the left side and choose “Card” from the toolbar on the bottom of window

6.You can do simple editing in iPhoto by double-clicking an image and using the tools on the bottom of the window. They include Rotate, Enhance, Red Eye and Retouch. There are also limited sets of adjustment and effects tools.

7.If you wish to make a DVD of an iPhoto slideshow, select “Send to iDVD” from the Share menu.
