What to expect as a class observer

There are several ways you might be invited as a Guest to a class session on Microsoft Teams:

  1. The instructor shares a meeting link with you via email or a calendar event to a meeting scheduled to a Class Team channel
    • Join the meeting using the link in the email or calendar event.
    • Assuming you are NOT a member of the Team:
      1. You will not be able to access chat during the meeting
      2. You will not be able to see other Team resources like Channels or Files
  2. The instructor adds you as a member of the Class Team
    • You will get an email notification that you have been added to the Team. As a member of the Team you will be able to:
      1. Access the Team calendar and the meeting from the Team
      2. Access chat, files, wiki, and other resources in the Team.
    • Joining the meeting:
      1. The instructor sends you an email with the link to the meeting or a calendar event with the link
  3. The instructor creates a Teams meeting calendar event in Outlook calendar or Teams calendar and adds you as an attendee
    • You will receive an event invitation in Outlook
    • The meeting should be available in your Outlook or Teams calendar
    • The meeting is not associated with a Team and displays in your Chats area of Teams after the meeting concludes
    • You have access to meeting chat and files
