Microsoft Stream
Stream is the College’s video streaming service that is included with the Microsoft 365 suite. Stream (Classic) is fully retired as of April 15, 2024 and replaced by Stream (on SharePoint).
To access Stream you will need to log in online through Office 365 with your College credentials. Stream videos are only viewable by College users; they are not able to be shared with the public.
Features
Stream (on SharePoint) displays video files stored in SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams. The Stream video start page in Microsoft 365 lets users get back to those videos no matter where they uploaded them across Microsoft 365. It helps users:
- find videos and Teams meeting recordings and quickly pickup where they left off
- discover new content that was shared or is useful to them
- create screen or web cam recordings
- favorite videos to easily get back to them

Sharing Videos
Sharing access to a video can be managed from OneDrive/SharePoint or from Stream.
Not every Team/SharePoint site has the option to share to “anyone with the link.”
The share link only works if the video’s Permissions have been set to allow access.
When sharing videos, each video will need its permissions set for viewers to see your video:
- Individual users
- Only my class
- The entire campus (students, faculty, & staff)
Who Can See My Videos?
Uploaded a video
By default, a video uploaded to your OneDrive is only visible to you, unless you manage access or create a share link and adjust the settings.
- on the Stream homepage:
- to a class group in Stream: all members of the class group can see it …
Teams meeting recordings
Recorded Teams meetings are now stored in OneDrive or SharePoint and can be played in Stream.
- Recorded a Teams meeting scheduled in Outlook/Teams calendar (but not in a Teams channel):
- only the people invited to the meeting as required or optional will be able to see the meeting recording in the Teams Chat and in Stream.
- Recorded a Teams meeting scheduled to a Teams channel:
- all members of the Team can see the video in the Team channel and in Stream
Groups and Stream
- Create a private group to allow students or others to share video content just within the context of the group
- Creates an Office 365 group which will have a shared inbox, shared calendar, and shared document library, see pages 6 on our Stream documentation
Transcripts
- Stream autogenerates a caption file when enabled while uploading your video.
- You can download the autogenerate caption file and convert it to a readable plain text file.
- If you already have a caption file for your video, you can upload it with your video.
Add a survey or quiz to a Stream video
You can add a Microsoft Form (survey or quiz) to a video at a specific time stamp.
- See the Add a quiz to your Stream recording Microsoft support page
Screen Recording
Features include:
- Record directly from Stream in your web browser
- Use your webcam for picture-in-picture while screen recording
- Use your microphone to record your narrations
- Recording system audio is available when sharing a browser tab, not the entire screen
- No extra software needed
Learn more about screen recording and camera recording from this Microsoft Stream screen recorder support page or this Microsoft YouTube video.
Screen Recording works on the following browsers:
- Microsoft Edge on Windows and MacOS
- Google Chrome on Windows 10 and MacOS
- Safari browser for MacOS is NOT supported
- Smartphone and tablet browsers are NOT supported; Use the OneDrive app to record video
Other limitations:
- Including the camera in the recording is available when screen recording a browser tab, an application window, or the entire screen, but you will not see your web cam displayed while you are recording a browser tab.
