Clarence Beecher Allen, The College of Wooster’s first African-American graduate in 1892, pastored one of the largest all-black Presbyterian Churches in America and served as president of the Interdenominational Ministerial Association of Pittsburgh as well as the Afro-American Council. Nearly 30 years ago, his story inspired the College to create the Allen Scholarship to attract the best and brightest to Wooster in hopes that these students would continue his legacy of leadership, civic engagement and social advocacy.
Multicultural Student Affairs supports the *Allen Scholars Community. The community promotes strategies for academic excellence, opportunities for scholars to continue to develop leadership abilities, invites scholars to participate in service, and engage with a robust community of past and present Allen Scholars.
