Email Troubleshooting

INTRODUCTION

Sometimes users encounter issues with accessing their email. Should you still be experiencing issues with using email, try some of these easy solutions to find the right fix for you!

Step 1: Make sure you’re using a supported browser.

If your computer has a Windows Operating System, these are the list of web browsers which can load the email portal correctly:

  • Internet Explorer
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Opera

If your computer has a Macintosh Operating System, these are the web browsers which can load the email portal correctly:

  • Safari
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Google Chrome
  • Opera

Step 2: Check for malware

Using an antivirus program, run a quick scan on your computer to check if there might be any malware, spyware, or viruses that could be causing your computer to experience issues in loading the email portal.

If you do not have an antivirus program on your computer, it is recommended that you check with the Office of Information and Technology to figure out what a good antivirus for your computer may be.

Step 3: Check if there is a program interfering with the college network

Some programs running in the background can interfere with your computer’s ability to load the email portal.

Norton 365

What is is: Antivirus program. Norton 365 runs in the background of your computer to provide you with constant scans and protection against malware.
Problem: Some users cannot connect to their email through a web browser when this program is running. They will be able to enter in their email credentials, but the connection will time out and they will be left with a blank page.
Solution: Turn off web-shield browsing as well as active protection. Disable the real-time scanner. Restart your browser and you should be able to log into email once again.

Bitdefender

Problem: However, some users also cannot connect to their email through a web browser when this program is running. After entering in their email credentials, they will have the authentication box pop up over and over again, regardless of how much they input their credentials.
Solution: Open Bitdefender. Navigate to Protection. Click on “Web Protection”. Uncheck/ Turn Off the “Scan SSL” option. Restart your browser, and try logging into email again.
