TREK (Think, Re/Search, Engage, Know) programs are developed and implemented by Wooster faculty in collaboration with the Global Engagement Office. TREK programs can be part of a semester class, with the study abroad portion taking place over a school break or the very end of the semester. Other TREKs are stand-alone programs that take place over winter or summer breaks. Check out the TREK program page for examples of past programs.
Implementing a TREK Program
If you are considering creating a TREK program, please contact Global Engagement Office as early in the process as you can. GEO staff will:
- Provide background on best practice and what works and what doesn’t
- Direct you to the program proposal template
- Help you develop a proposal and preliminary budget
- Guide you through the approval process that includes the GEO Advisory Committee, the Educational Policy Committee and the Faculty
- Help you plan a marketing and recruitment strategies
- Attend your information sessions to answer students’ questions on the process, cost, and so on
- Create the application and manage applications for your review
- Communicate with students and assist with visa applications
- Lead a pre-departure orientation for you and the students
- Ensure program assessment
- Assist with any challenges or emergencies that take place abroad
TREK Applications for Faculty
You will need to submit the completed TREK program proposal, a course syllabus, and a preliminary budget to the GEO Advisory Committee. These materials are available from GEO.
Once all of the materials have been approved by the GEO Advisory Committee, your proposal must be approved by EPC, and then it must go to the faculty for a vote. Once it is officially approved, you can start advertising and recruiting. GEO can help at any point in the process.
