Qualifying Life Events

Welcome to The College of Wooster Benefits Portal. We are glad to support you as you navigate your Benefits options. In addition to the annual Open Enrollment period, eligible employees may make changes to their benefit plans when experiencing a Qualified Life Event (QLE).

A Qualified Life Event is a personal life change that may impact your health insurance needs. Changes related to a QLE must be submitted within 30 calendar days of the event date. Please note this timeframe is based on calendar days—not business days.

Examples of Qualified Life Events include, but are not limited to:

  • Marriage
  • Divorce
  • Birth or adoption of a child
  • Death of a covered family member
  • Loss of other health insurance coverage (e.g., due to job loss)
  • Turning 26 and losing coverage under a parent’s plan
  • Moving to a different ZIP code or country that affects your current coverage area

Employees who work 1,000 or more hours annually are eligible for various benefits. If you have questions about eligibility or need to report a Qualified Life Event (QLE), please contact the Office of Human Resources as soon as possible. Supporting documentation may be required, and timely notification ensures your benefits are updated without delay or disruption.
