iMovie is a Mac based video editing software, aimed at entry-level and for the amateur consumer. It provides all the basic features in a clean, easy interface. The latest version of iMovie is 10.1.15. This version of iMovie has more options to share a movie, more movie and trailer theme options from iMovie for iOS, easier to make picture-in-pictures, cutaways, side-by-sides etc., more realistic green-screen effects and easier refinements.

Getting Started

1. iMovie interface
   1. Media > Photos and iMovie Libraries
   2. Projects
      • Browser, Timeline, Viewer
2. iMovie file structure and backup (iMovie Library on external drive or multiple libraries)
3. Importing video clips
   1. File-based camera
   2. Tape-based camera
   3. Computer

Editing

1. Create a new Project
2. Video
   • Add clips to your project
   • Edit video (trim, move, split clips)
3. Images
   • Add images
   • Edit images (crop and adjust the Ken Burns Effect)
4. Video
   • effects: green-screen, cutaways, picture-in-picture, and side-by-side
5. Audio
   • Edit audio: detach audio, adjust volume, enhance audio
   • Add a voiceover
   • Add background music or sound effects
   • Edit audio: fade in or out, “lower volume of other clips”
6. Add transitions
7. Add titles

Advanced Movie-Making

• Create custom green-screen effects (see sample PowerPoint slidedeck)
• Enhance clips
• Crop, rotate, and modify clips
• Stabilize a shaky clip
• Slow down and speed up clips

Sharing

1. Save as a QuickTime file 
2. Upload and Share Files in OneDrive 
3. Upload to Microsoft 365 Stream (video files uploaded to your OneDrive or a SharePoint site can be streamed from Microsoft 365 Stream)
4. Upload to YouTube, Facebook, or Vimeo
