STA Reflection ’21- Pavithra

Learning about new technologies and exploring things I haven’t had a chance to do before is one of my favorite things. I really appreciate the opportunity to do this as a part of my job as an STA. Being an STA has allowed me to put my creative and organization skills to work. I have been able to work on a wide range of projects for Ed Tech. These include – creating content for MLK day, writing blog posts for our website and creating posters to spread the word about our events. As part of the social media team, I’m able to design content for our social media account and propose creative ideas to inform students about our events and resources. Creating a calendar with posts planned for the entire semester helps me stay organized and plan ahead.

One of my favorite things about working as an STA is the opportunity to lead and assist workshops that introduce students to interesting digital resources. This gives me a chance to share my interest in a software to peers and gives me a platform to interact with other students and share my work. I had the chance to host a Blender workshop earlier this semester. Furthermore, the opportunity to help students with digital projects gives me the chance to see what kind of projects other students are working on and serves as inspiration for projects I take up.

I really enjoy the teamwork aspect of the job as well. I regularly get the opportunity to collaborate with my co-workers on projects for Ed Tech. The social media team that I am a part of consists of three students. Therefore, there is a need to establish effective communication. Working with co-workers and professional staff has played a significant role in improving my ability to communicate effectively and work in a team. I have also had the opportunity to collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Department on campus as part of our social media outreach. This helped me learn more about collaborating with other departments.
