Teaching Tip: Grading and Assessments

,

Do you just dread grading certain assignments? Feel like you can’t find ways to engage students in their assignments?

Have you tried Alternative Assessments?

An alternative assessment can not only allow for students to gain additional skills related to digital literacy, industry specific skills, or important “soft” skills, but can also offer another, more engaging way to encourage students to showcase their knowledge! Additionally, alternatives and non-traditional assignments can be more engaging for you to grade. Make it fun and engaging to both complete and assess!

Types of Alternative Assessments can include:

  • Audiocasts
  • Video Presentations
  • Microlearning presentations
  • Game-based assessments
  • and more!

The possibilities are endless! You can find ideas and some basic tutorials for the different types of projects you can implement in your classroom in our Projects in a Box!

You can work with Educational Technology to do anything from brainstorming potential alternative assessments and assignments for course objectives, discuss how to scaffold an alternative idea into your current course, and even how to make grading them easy-breezy!
