Windows/Mac Keystroke Shortcuts

Your Computer on a More Personal Level

Some user friendly keystroke shortcuts to make your computer interaction a more pleasant experience.

Keystroke Shortcuts:

  • Windows Snapping/Multiple Monitors
    • Windows Snapping – Windows Key + Arrow Keys or you can drag the window to the right or left until a water drop appears and the window will snap to the right or left of the monitor
    • Multiple Monitors – Shift + Windows Key + Arrows will cause the window to jump to the other monitor
    • Snap on a Mac – drag the window until you “feel” it snap into place, repeat with additional windows as needed.
    • Multiple Monitors Mac – Drag and drop on the extended monitor
  • Switching Between Tabs
    • Windows/Mac – Ctrl/Command + Number(1,2,3,4,…..), Ctrl/Command + 9 always jumps to the last tab even if more are open
  • Need a Closed Tab Back
    • Windows – CTRL + Shift + T
    • Mac – Command + Shift + T
  • Emoji Keyboard
    • Windows – Windows Key + . (period)
    • Mac – Command + Control + Spacebar
  • Screenshot
    • Windows Full Screen – Alt + PrtScn
    • Windows Selection From Screen – Windows Key + Shift + S
    • Mac Full Screen – Command + Shift + Control + 3
    • Mac Selection From Screen – Command + Shift + Control + 4
  • Find Words
    • Windows – Ctrl + F
    • Mac – Command + F, Command + G (will allow you to navigate through each one found)
  • Zoom In/Out, Rest Zoom
    • Windows Zoom In/Out – Ctrl + (plus/minus key)
    • Mac Zoom In/Out – Command + (plus/minus key)
    • Rest Zoom Windows/Mac – Ctrl/Command + 0
  • Force Quit
    • Windows – Ctrl +Alt + Delete, select “Task Manager”
    • Mac – Command + Space, or click on Spotlight, start typing “Activity Monitor”
  • Lock Your Screen
    • Windows – Windows Key + L
    • Mac – Command + Ctrl + Q
  • Log Out
    • Windows – Ctrl + Alt + Delete, select Log Out
    • Mac – Option + Shift + Command + Q
