Theme

International Education Week offers a unique opportunity to explore the vast and diverse tapestry of cultures worldwide. This year’s art contest theme, “Windows to the World”, invites Wooster students to use their artistic talents to showcase the beauty, complexity, and interconnectedness of different cultures.

Through these artworks, students can:

  • Depict: Scenes from foreign lands, cultural traditions, or historical events.
  • Express: Personal experiences or perspectives on international travel, cultural exchange, or global interconnectedness.
  • Interpret: The concept of cultural diversity and the beauty of different ways of life.
  • Explore: The role of art in fostering understanding and appreciation across cultures.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Must be a current student at The College of Wooster.
  2. If submitting a hand-drawn work, you must scan the artwork. No in-person submissions accepted.
  3. AI art is allowed with submissions, however, we would like there to be some of your own creativity added to the piece.

Judging Criteria

The submitted works will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Theme Adherence: How well the artwork reflects the theme “Windows to the World” and conveys a sense of global interconnectedness or cultural diversity.
  • Artistic Merit: The quality of the artwork, including composition, technique, and use of materials.
  • Creativity: The originality and innovative approach taken by the artist.
  • Impact: The ability of the artwork to evoke emotion, provoke thought, or inspire viewers.
  • Technical Skill: The artist’s mastery of their chosen medium and their ability to execute their vision effectively.

All submissions will be exhibited during International Education Week along with a QR code to vote for your favorite submission. Your votes will account for 50% of the final score for each submission.

Additional Considerations:

  • Cultural Sensitivity: The artwork should be respectful of different cultures and avoid stereotypes or offensive imagery.
  • Political Neutrality: The artwork should avoid making explicit political statements.
  • Originality: The artwork should demonstrate the artist’s unique perspective and creative voice.
  • Effort: The amount of time, effort, and care put into the creation of the artwork.
