About Educational Technology

Educational Technology is responsible for partnering with faculty and students to incorporate technology into the learning process, exploring and evaluating emerging technologies for pedagogical value, and supporting faculty, staff, and students in creating multimedia and digital materials all in the service of enhancing teaching and learning. The Educational Technology team also assists faculty with updating and designing their courses, leveraging new and existing technologies in their pedagogy, addressing teaching challenges, the development of meaningful and engaging assignments and assessments, and planning impactful, technology-enhanced projects. We strive to foster an environment where educational excellence can thrive.

Mission

The department’s goal is to empower faculty and students in their effective use of technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Educational Technology is a department within the Office of Information Technology and reports to the Senior Director of Information Technology.

Specifically, Educational Technology can assist instructors:

  • with course design,
  • with incorporating active learning strategies,
  • with developing effective assessments,
  • with evaluating and integrating emerging technologies to ensure their pedagogical value,
  • with learning about new technologies,
  • with learning how to best use existing technologies,
  • with finding a solution to a teaching concern,
  • with planning a technology-enhanced project,
  • with providing comprehensive support and resources for technology projects and digital initiatives, or
  • with evaluating the impact of technology.

3-5 year plans

  • Partner with the Dean of Faculty Development to optimize the use of technology in teaching and learning.
  • Work with the Academic Resource Center and STEMZone to implement learning analytics and adaptive personalized learning strategies that enhance student learning.
  • Engage with faculty in the integration and assessment of AI in our curriculum and partner with the broader campus community on appropriate institutional uses of AI.
  • Continue to work with departments to integrate technology and digital methods into the curriculum to achieve our Graduate Qualities.
