STA Reflection ’24 – Amelia

Hello, I am Amelia. I have been an STA for the past 3 years. I had more goals this past year than usual. Those goals were to publicize the 3D printers, learn blender, and to create better “How to Print” posters.

As an STA, I learned about the 3D printers on campus (during spring 2023). Over the past two semesters, I have used my knowledge as an STA to host 3D printing workshops to inform fellow students of the options for 3D printing on campus. In addition, I was able to help repair the theatre department’s 3D printers as well as learn about the studio art department’s new 3D printer.

Through this past semester, I learned the basics of Blender to the point where I now feel confident in leading a workshop during Fall 2024. I followed Blender Guru’s tutorial for making a donut on YouTube. This tutorial was recently updated for the 4.0 release of Blender. Below are the before and after images of one of the donuts I made.

These past two semesters I have been working on trying to make a streamlined and user-friendly poster to teach new students how to set up the printers on their computer. So far, I have been able to make a MAC and Windows based poster but am still working on the Mobile Devices poster.

Apart from my STA focus goal I was able to gain a new understanding of Word through helping lots of seniors format their ISs and posters. Overall, all the skills I learned this past school year as an STA will help me in the future with helping other students and at future jobs after college.
